2012 Women for Success Holiday Challenge

As we head into the holiday season, we think our members are up for the challenge of helping Dress for Success Oregon raise $25,000, which will help 50 women through the program. We’re going above and beyond our efforts to provide undergarments and accessories to all DFSO clients, and want to ask you: how many women do you think WFS can sponsor by end of the year?

For $500, each DFSO client receives professional attire, a support network, and the career development tools they need to thrive in work and in life. We think you, your friends, family, and coworkers can help Women for Success sponsor at least two women through the program for the holidays

You can set up your very own fundraising site here, and spread the love through your own network this holiday season. From there it’s easy, all you have to do is communicate to your network and ask for their support for this amazing cause. Who knows, maybe you’ll find 10 people to donate $50 (or 20 to donate $25, or…), and YOU will have helped a woman on her path to self-sufficiency. Can you think of a better gift this holiday season?

Speaking of gifts, as an added incentive, the top five fundraisers will receive a free copy of a DIY interior design ebook written by a Portland-based award winning designer!

Join us for our July happy hour today, July 25 at 5 p.m. at Deschutes Brewery located at 210 NW 11th Avenue in the pearl. Happy Hour goes until 6 p.m., so come early and to get the best deals on drinks and snacks! At this casual get together, come meet the board and learn more about what we do and who we are. This is a great opportunity to learn more about Women for Success if you’re thinking about joining. Hope to see you there!

Oregon Health IT Office hiring a Project Manager and Policy Analysts

One of our members, Chelsea Hollingsworth, just let us know that her employer is hiring! The Oregon Health Authority’s Office of Health Information Technology is looking to fill the following positions:

  • Project Manager (1 opening) – This recruitment will close on July 16th and the posting number is OHA12-0173
  • Policy Analyst (3 openings) – This recruitment will close on July 23rd and the posting number is OHA12-0180

43 bottles of wine on the wall!

Tasting wine and looking fabulous at our Give Wine Get Wine event.

I think the bubbly may have went to head last night because it was rough getting out of bed and going into the office this morning. But so, so worth it! In total, our 2nd Annual Give Wine Get Wine event brought in 43 bottles of wine to be donated to the Dress for Success auction later this month. That’s more than $800 worth of red, white, and bubbly that will be resold to help women move from poverty to self-sufficiency. Thanks again to David from Red Slate for hosting.  Cheers to that!

Women for Success needs your help!

You’ve asked for more opportunities to get involved. Here’s your chance!

The annual Dress for Success Auction and Fashion Show is slated for Friday, April 27 at the downtown Hilton Hotel. Last year, Women for Success hosted the first-ever Beauty Bar before the main event. It was a smashing success, bringing in over $3,500! If there’s anything we learned from last year, it’s that we can’t do this event by ourselves. That’s where you come in.

We need:

  • 8 volunteers to help out with the Beauty Bar from 4 to 6 p.m. on April 27. It’s a great way to have fun, make a difference and attend a fabulous VIP event for free. Contact Crystal for more info.
  • Coupons, product samples or other items of value for our swag bags. Small business owners: this is a great way to get your name out to 75-100 auction attendees!  Don’t have swag? Volunteer to help us call/visit local businesses. Contact Megan for more info.

What’s a “wine raiser?” Last year, with your help, we were able to donate $700 worth of wine to Dress for Success Oregon’s auction. This year, we have a whole new “wall of wine” to fill, so bring your favorite bottle of red, white or bubbly worth $20 or more to donate to the wall and we’ll treat you to a free wine tasting flight at Red Slate in SE Portland. Don’t have time to make it to the store? All bottles of wine at Red Slate will be 10% off the night of our event.
